NETeller and USAO Reach $136 Million Settlement
Troubled Isle of Man based e-wallet NETeller, has announced that it has
entered into a Deferred Prosecution Agreement (DPA) with the United
States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York (USAO).
The DPA signifies the end of the USAO’s investigation into the company
and follows the guilty pleas of the payment processor’s co-founders
Stephen Lawrence and John Lefebvre, to charges including criminal
conspiracy.
In line with the DPA, NETeller has agreed to the recording of all criminal
information relating to business between online gambling firms and US
residents and has also consented to pay a $136 million penalty to the US.
For its part of the bargain the USAO has agreed to suspend the
prosecution of any federal charges and as a result NETeller will not be
convicted of any federal crime, on the condition that they fulfill the criteria
of the DPA within two year term of the agreement.
