Rookie Crowned Online Poker Champion
A British player captured first place last week at the $1,000,000 GP Main Event of the European Championships Of Online Poker (ECOOP) staged by TitanPoker.com on Playtech?s iPoker network.
Luke Cahill hails from Manchester and took home a first prize of $220,000 after defeating a field of 992 players competing in a $1,060 Texas Hold''em no limit freezeout tournament. Cahill had only previously competed in one live tournament, having played mainly cash games, but triumphed in the twelve-hour-long online poker tournament, the climax of the ten-day ECOOP series that has given away more than $2.5 million in prizes.
''I was awake all night but I wasn''t as tired as I should have been towards the end," said Cahill.
''Recently I decided to try playing tournaments. I only heard about the ECOOP Main Event the day before."
The player stated that he would now devote more time to tournaments and hopes to win a satellite seat for a major mainland poker event.
''I''ve played only one live tournament before and busted out on the first day,'' said Cahill.
''I play a few hours at a time. I play until bored, unless it''s a tournament when I can play for twelve hours straight.''
