Minor Injury Forces Majestic Warrior Out of BC Juvenile
Kinsman Farm's Majestic Warrior will miss the Bessemer Trust Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I) because of a minor left foot injury, trainer Bill Mott said Oct. 21.
Mott has been keeping a watchful eye on Majestic Warrior since the colt's disappointing sixth-place finish in the Oct. 6 Champagne Stakes (gr. I) at Belmont Park. After his Oct. 18 workout, the injury was discovered.
"We weren't totally happy with him after his last work," Mott said. "Upon further examination and X-ray we discovered that he has a hoof wall separation. We trimmed it out and put a support shoe on him. It probably wasn't a sudden injury; it happened slowly over a period of time, kind of like a virus. It's the type of thing you don't see it until it happens."
A 2-year-old son of A.P. Indy-Dream Supreme, Majestic Warrior has started three times, winning twice. His 2 1/4-length victory in the Sept. 3 Hopeful Stakes (gr. I) at Saratoga made him one of the early favorites in the juvenile division.
Majestic Warrior, who is also owned by Derrick Smith, Michael Tabor and John Magnier, is expected to return to the racetrack in the near future.
"If this were the last race of his career, we could probably patch him up and let him go," Mott said. "But he's a young horse, he won a grade I, and he's done enough for the time being. We're not under the gun, so we'll get him right and pass on the Breeders' Cup. If we were in a rush he could train tomorrow, but everyone was in agreement to snuff this thing out for good rather than have a quick fix."
